Who is The Flying Gourmet?


Born in Baltimore, Capt. Dobi as a young boy was encouraged by his father to take flying lessons at a local airport. He soon realized he wanted to be an airline pilot. But like many dreams this one took a very circuitous route. After college, he worked for a fortune 500 company by day and as bouncer in the Washington DC area at night. But he never gave up on his dream and and enrolled in a flight school in Florida and graduated as a flight instructor with an airline transport rating.

After a short stint with an airline based in Puerto Rico, he was hired by Continental Airlines and became a captain in 1985.

As an international airline pilot, Captain Dobi travelled extensively to Europe and South America. This gave him a chance to indulge his other passions of good food, wine and travel. After retiring in 2001, Capt. Dobi became the host of the popular radio show "The Flying Gourmet" on WPBR Palm Beach, Florida for several years. Now residing in the Philadelphia suburbs, Capt. Dobi as the Flying Gourmet hopes to expand and excite your world of fine food, Wine and Travel.
